COMPANY PRESS RELEASE: Schnuck Markets Inc. will offer customers in the City of St. Louis great product variety and selection when it opens its 62,000-square-foot Schnucks City Plaza Supercenter on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 9 a.m.

The combination food and drug store, located at 3431 Union Boulevard at Natural Bridge Road in North St. Louis, will be the largest supermarket in North St. Louis.

The Schnucks Supercenter at City Plaza Shopping Center anchors the 10-acre, 80,000- square-foot retail center. The center includes an additional 18,000 square feet of retail space. The center is 98.5 percent leased. It is the first new full-scale retail center built in North St. Louis since World War II.

The store will employ about 235 full-time and part-time associates. About 195 staff members are newly hired from the community and 45 transferred from existing Schnucks stores.

"We are pleased to cast our vote of confidence in the City of St. Louis with this major investment. Our new store is bringing sorely-needed shopping convenience, services and jobs to a neighborhood that has been underserved," said Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer. "At Schnucks City Plaza our goal is to offer our customers the best selection and highest quality foods at an exceptional value."

City officials expect City Plaza to boost the area's economic vitality and attract more residential and commercial development. "Development of this shopping center is a huge success for the entire city," said Mayor Clarence Harmon. "City Plaza will provide modern community shopping and a large number of job opportunities for city residents, especially those living in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood. As the tax base of this area increases, more residents and businesses will want to move in. All of St. Louis will benefit from this development."
